There are a few of these octopus-ghosts (that's what my girlfriend and I call them) near my old palce on White b/w Church and Broadway in Tribeca. I've spotted a few within a couple blocks of my new place near Union Square too. Who are you octopus guy, and what do you want from me?!?!
Its that guy that owns that gallery in the les! He went crazy after chillin with the downtown graff heads! Mad ups!
maybe triumphs neckface, but nothing on ufo

I love Neckface and the gorilla hand, but that smiley octopus makes me happy every time I see him. Keep it up, Octoperson, whoever you are!
what about the skulls that appear everywhere in the lower east side? it's a single stroke drawing of a skull. does anyone know what i'm talking about?
Who is Neck Face? Anyone cataloged him?
I think the octopus is kind of sad, actually... He's terrified. He's trying hard to keep it together.
the octopus appears to be the "it" image for graff artists these days. i remember the "octa-alien" that used to be everywhere a few years ago: les, e.village, williamsburg, etc. i even once saw the image in an art show in dumbo. it's great to walk all over town and see a motif.
It is Harif Guzman- he is an artist who lives on Ave C.
He also does those HA drawings.
My favorite octopus-type graffiti is on Rivington between Attorney and Clinton, south side of the street, visible when you're walking west. I think it might be an octi-alien one. It might not be too visible these days, with the new building on the corner. Go Harif!
i hate these octopi. they're ugly and lack style.
neckface is one of the most innovative graff artist out in ny right now : www.fotolog.net/neckface/
also check out www.woostercollective.com for all things streetart. if you don't know, now you know.
graffiti is for losers. why don't you deface you're own property? like say...maybe, oh I don't know...a canvas! oh right because no one would see it. because it sucks. and people can choose to not look at sucky shitty work. oh and basquiat and haring are both overrated. just my $0.02.
People who use names that fit the style of their post are overrated.
yeah, I took a trip to New York city and saw these things everywhere I went. I thought to myself "oh no, New York has a trtl equivalent." Which is awful because if you went to detroit you would know that the trtl thing is more or less universally hated in its suffocating omnipresence. Just wait till this thing gets out of hand like it did here and it turns into an african locust swarm of paint.
You really shouldn't get too interested in the activities of vandals, certainly not as much as this. Have you never thought how pleasant it would be if retards didn't scrawl all over things, and perverts didn't make holes in toilet walls to watch us going, and stupid people didn't get elected and start wars to make themselves popular?
Be nice like The Walrus. The world would be nicer if you did.
If I owned a sketchy building in NYC, I would personally thank any artist that adds a bit of character to the place with a spray can. If I had a high-rent tower in Manhattan, I'd sneer loudly as my goons erased the offending marks from my marble fascade.
There were several similar ones around Freedom Parkway by the Carter Center in Atlanta.
Feh, let them enjoy the octopii, you pretentious graffiti fucks.
the octopus is a good ny pickmeup
the alien is great, but almost a drumstick.
the one stroke skull is really great.
sometimes it looks like it's teeth are a word.
neckface wrote on a cop.
"he's" the big winner.
I run a silly blog devoted to a Gund toy hectopus. Thanks for the smile your photos provided.
just to be pendantic, it's octopuses, not octopi.
Either way, it's good to see cephalopod related bombing. Not nearly enough of those around.
In between Greenwich street and Hudson, on Harrison, there's an empty shop that has atleast four of those guys on them, if the photographer is interested.
octopodes, my friends. not octopi, not octopuses, octopodes.

know your role!
can someone explain to me why neckface is cool? after looking at several photos of his 'work' i think i must be missing something. its like a 5 year old's scrawlings...
Neckface sucks. But people think it's cool is because it shows up all over in weird places, and because they know it pisses ME off.
But it still sucks.
Theres a sloo of spray painted turtles all around downtown Detroit in Michigan.
Are you certain that the "sloo" of turtles were in Downtown Detroit in Michigan? Or maybe you meant the Downtown Detroit in Florida?
The turtles are in Detroit, Michigan and not just downtown everywhere the artist is wanted by the law for defacing landmarks and disobeying teritories
Someone's doing "broken lightbulb" graffiti all over Alexandria, VA.
Love it. And the pushies.
you're a youngster...do some research back in the 80's you'll find real talent!

Would luv to do a reseach paper on neckface - does anyone know anything about this artist?? I really find his work interesting and of substance here in nyc.
This is crazy, I love octopussies, or is it octopie? I'm going to tell my friend Bashir Eustache all about it next week!

supposdly avril lavigne bought a building that she calls the "octupus building"
marco is a certified asshole. seriously. spread the word.
Yo man. I walk those streets every day. I can see the octopus looking at me but in my wildest dream i am going to sold out my soul. Keep the good tag.
Interesting graffiti. As a child of about 4 or 5 in the middle 1940's I had a record with a comic to be read as the record was played. The idea of the story was the Octopus who was able to be a one-man band in the ocean amongst fishes and other aquatic beings.having 8 arms made this possible. In the story the octopus was criticized by other sea creatures for it's apparent ugliness, which,of course,it had no control over.It achieved notable standing and acceptance by playing the most beautiful music all by itself.I still have a vague recollection of the tune, and beautiful it was,to me.I have occasionally tried to find it in historical archives on the internet which have information on childrens toys of that period. My lost erector set shows up in a virtual warehouse of sites, collectors and history, but no Octopus record with read-along comic.I wonder if you might ever have run across this item?--Carl A.Helsing-1350 east north street--lot 62 -Crown point,Indiana-phone 219-663-1861-
I thought it was marketing for Marco Art on Orchard Street. The 'pussy's name is Ollie.

To:Kimthew;I asked about a nostalgia site with reference to a childhood song I had about an octopus back in June.I found one on the 28th of June,Peter Muldavin with a New York site.He gave me the correct title(exact)which I did not remember. It is"The Lonesome Octopus".He has the record and cartoon magazine as well.I thank you for your reference, whatever it was,in general. The item was produced in the middle 1940's.As it happened, your octopus item here was what reminded me of the tune.I have otherwise recalled it over the years but did not know any collectors had such items.
Hi Kim and Matthew,
Can you help?
At this time of trauma in Israel and Lebanon I have received a number of emails relating to comments and various pronouncements of leaders throughout the World. Mostly I am able to confirm their veracity.
However, one such email relates to a historic front page of The New York Times dated the 10th May 1943. Your validation of the page would be appreciated. Please let me have your email address and I will send it to you.
Love Dex and Fran

Every day, a new star is born. I turned my head, blushed, fluttered my hand up to my collarbone prettily, and gulped the last of my champagne. I know when I’ve been beaten.
